Leading the pack: Nicki Minaj and Rihanna, both with four nominations, while not far behind are Drake, Justin Bieber, Maroon 5, One Direction and Usher with three each. Carrie Underwood, Chris Brown, fun., Gotye, J.Cole, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Luke Bryan, and Pitbull saw two noms respectively.
Also announced: a new category for Electronic Dance Music, which includes nominees David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Skrillex.

Lance Bass will return to the show once again to host the Coca-Cola Red Carpet LIVE! online pre-show, where he will be joined by Kimberly Cole, Brad Goreski and Tristan Wilds. Additional hosts will be announced in the coming months, as well as presenters and performers for the actual ceremony

Rihanna sported a cropped, asymmetrical haircut in her natural black and the Umbrella singer looked utterly self-assured as she belted out the love song.

Despite months of hard-partying and jet-setting The Grammy-winner’s skin appeared flawless and she smiled confidently for her close-ups.

Stroking her face and neck with her long, metallic talons, Rihanna appeared with a keyboard player and backing vocalists in an atmospheric set illuminated behind her.

Not long after her performance Team Blake triumphed and Cassadee Pope was crowned the winner of the hit television competition.

After the highest number of votes in the show’s history, the country singer - the youngest and only female contestant left - earned the title.

Cassadee had impressed judges with her remarkable range and ability to inject emotion into her songs.

The Florida resident, who was tutored by Blake Shelton, hardly had time to run through a list of thanks at the end of the 1.5-hour live show.

‘I feel amazing,’ yelled Cassadee, who made it through 64 contestants and months of heats to become the winner.

‘Thank you to everyone who voted for me, fans, Blake and the producers, wardrobe hair and make up, Carson, the band, Christina, everybody, seriously, it’s been so great,’ she added with tears in her eyes.

Second place was Scots-born indie rocker Terry McDermott who appeared close to tears in his defeat.

He was followed in third place by Team CeeLo’s Minnesota soul-man Nicholas David - who was hoping to win to gain a better life for his ‘gal’ who is pregnant with his third child.

Christina Aguilera, who had no contestants left, was rejoicing in the fact that it was her 32nd birthday.

‘Yeah it’s my birthday,’ squealed the Burlesque star who was sporting white feathered epaulettes with silver chains, a platinum bob and her trademark fan.

Reflecting on her favourite moments she said: ‘I’ll never forget Nicholas’ crazy stomps and kicks last night, he was working it out.’

She added: ‘Cassadee makes me smile, when she hits those notes it’s amazing and Terry, with his tippy toes and seeing those personal moments with his son are very heartwarming to me,’ added the Genie In a Bottle singer, who has a young son of her own.
